The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires new drivers under the age of 16 to complete an approved Driver’s Ed course. New drivers under the age of 15½ must complete the online or classroom 30 driver education course before applying for their learners permit. At 15½ to 16 years of age, new drivers can apply for their learners permit as long as they are currently enrolled in an approved course.
New drivers 16 to 18 years of age are not required to complete a formal online/classroom driver education course to apply for their permit, however, can still enroll in our parent taught course. All drivers under the age of 18 must complete 50 hours of behind-the-wheel driver training with a licensed driver 21 years or older who has held a valid Oklahoma drivers license for at least two years.
